The Burnaby Teachers' Association is readying its members for a strike vote, likely at the end of June.

"There's definitely a strike vote," said association president Richard Storch. "From what we've been told, it's happening."

Storch's comments came after a recent B.C. Teachers' Federation announcement that the union would seek a strike vote if contract negotiations with the provincial government did not improve soon.

The provincewide teachers' union stated that, if members chose to strike, teachers would continue teaching but would refuse to meet with management or do administrative work.

Storch confirmed that a strike would not affect classrooms, but that could change.
